24 CRPF personnel were killed and several injured in an encounter with naxalites in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district. Reports say almost 300 Maoists surrounded the jawans from all sides and opened fire. The injured were airlifted to Raipur for treatment. The deceased and injured are from the 74th battalion of the CRPF and were deployed in the area for anti-Maoist operations.
The ruling AIADMK (Amma) faction in Tamil Nadu has alleged that leaders of rival OPS group want to stall merger talks. A leader of the faction said it is ready for unconditional talks with the Panneerselvam camp. The OPS faction is rigid on its demand for a CBI probe into the death of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa and expulsion of VK Sasikala and TTV Dhinakaran from the party.

A CBI court pronounced underworld don Chhota Rajan and three others guilty in a fake passport case. The CBI in its chargesheet had alleged that Chhota Rajan got issued a fake passport from Bengaluru in 1998-99 in connivance with the three passport officials. The ex-officers are out on bail, and the court has issued order for their immediate arrest.
A head constable with Bengaluru police has been arrested for allegedly running a hi-tech prostitution racket. The accused was part of the crime wing of the Parappana Agrahara police station. He allegedly set up the racket and solicited customers online, and shared the profits with two other pimps. The racket was busted last week when police raided a house in Mico Layout police limits.
