Three persons were killed and seven others injured after 13 coaches of Vasco da Gama-Patna Express derailed near UP’s Banda. The incident took place near Manikpur in Uttar Pradesh at 4:18 AM, a railway official said. Prima facie the cause of accident looks like fractured railway track as per local assessment, UP ADG (law and order) said. Railways has issued helpline numbers for kin of accident victims. Read.

China has hinted that it can rename CPEC if India joins its One Belt One Road connectivity plan. The ambassador had said during a speech in Delhi last week that China “can change the name of CPEC” and “create an alternative corridor through Jammu & Kashmir, Nathu La pass or Nepal to deal with India’s concerns”. Chinese investments in Nepal and Myanmar are meant to pressure India to join the initiative but India has not responded to these overtures so far.
