Maharashtra confirmed the first heat-related deaths of the season yesterday. Two people died from sunstroke in the state, as the heat wave continued to shatter temperature records in many parts of western, central, and northern India. Apart from Maharashtra, higher-than-normal temperatures were reported in UP, Gujarat, Odisha, south Haryana, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Bengal, parts of Rajasthan and MP.
Domestic airlines now plan to fly to 31 new cities this year. As many as 31 unserved airports will be put on the national flight map under the first phase of the Centre’s affordable regional connectivity scheme. Five carriers – SpiceJet, Air India’s subsidiary Alliance Air, Air Deccan, Air Odisha and Turbo Megha – will operate on these routes.
Hyderabad has become the first Indian city to have 1GBPS internet speed. The Bengaluru-based Internet Service Provider ACT Fibernet announced the launch of 1Gbps (gigabits per second) wired broadband internet services in Hyderabad yesterday. The 1Gb plan will be offered at Rs 5,999 per month and is set to be launched in 10 other Indian cities in the near term.
The Allahabad high court gave its nod to the formation of anti-Romeo squads by the UP police. The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court said that anti-Romeo squads, introduced to prevent harassment of women in UP, should be considered “preventive policing” rather than “moral policing”. The observation came on a PIL moved by lawyer Gaurav Gupta, against the anti-Romeo squads, saying they ‘invade the privacy of couples’.
PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal to face each other in the quarter final of the India Open Super Series 2017. The match will take place at 2pm in Delhi’s Siri Fort Sports Complex. This will be the second time that Saina and Sindhu will face each other at the international level. When they last met during the final of the 2014 Syed Modi Grand Prix, it was the London Olympics’ bronze winner Saina who prevailed in straight games.
